An Evening of Elephants

In "An Evening of Elephants: Stories from the Buddhist Tradition," Margo brings together three stories she has been developing over many years.

Two are traditional Jataka tales (birth-stories of the Buddha) and one is a Buddhist legend, a miracle story from the life of the Buddha. What is unique about this particular collection is how Margo has chosen to tell them. One of the stories has three possible endings, with the audience invited to consider which ending makes the most sense to them. In another story, the teller of the tale is one of the central figures in the Buddha's life--his attendant and cousin, Ananda. He tells the story as a teaching for a novice monk who expresses his skepticism over the power of metta or loving-kindness to allay fear.

Another evening performance will be held at the Net Loft on Gabriola Island in late November, 2018.

Date: Saturday, November 24th, 7 p.m. at the Net Loft.

Note: No registration is required to save a seat, but plan to come early! Admission is by donation.

Reviews:

"Margo, it was such a pleasure to hear the wonderful stories you shared. We were both so impressed with your skill and polished approach to the subject matter. You were in your element; beautiful enunciation, a voice that evoked the sense of characters, and the eloquent style to project such a rich visual image. I personally felt the stories were speaking to me with reminders that I need to greater cultivate wisdom and love into my daily life. Thanks again. You were marvellous, Margo." W. Peterson, Victoria, BC

"My experience of Margo’s evening of storytelling was a combination of something like being home and being challenged, of settling and being soothed inside her voice, yet invited to question how to find and apply the lessons of the stories.  Margo’s hang music smoothly and finely threaded the stories together.  I felt welcomed and held."    LR, Victoria, BC

"An Evening of Elephants: Stories from Buddhist India"

The Buddha was a master of metaphor, drawing on the world around him to offer teachings on mindfulness, generosity, compassion, and kindness.

The animal world, including elephants, figure frequently in the Buddha's teachings and in the stories of his previous lives.

In this evening of storytelling, Margo will reflect on the elephant as a metaphor and tell several stories of the Buddha's past lives as an elephant, as well as stories of famous elephants from his own life. Margo will also be playing some new compositions on the hang.

Admission is by donation. To pre-register or for more information about this event, please send an e-mail to margostoryteller@gmail.com or through this link: Margo.
